Santa Barbara - Excursions

For the more adventurous, further from Santa Barbara, there are things like Wine Country, the Channel Islands, whale watching, theme parks, Los Angeles, and Hollywood.

Santa Ynez Valley

Quicksilver Ranch, a miniature horse farm, is along the way to Santa Ynez Wine Country. Located in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley, just 30 miles north of Santa Barbara, between Solvang and Ballard, California. It's open to visitors every day from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Tours are available by appointment only, for 20 people or more at $3.00 per person. Quicksilver Ranch does not offer petting pens or rides in the cart, but you are able to get up close and personal with the miniature horse.

The Santa Ynez Valley has long been the horse breeder's Kentucky of the west. Some of the finest thoroughbred horses (and miniatures, too!) come from this area.

Another unusual treat is a visit to Ostrich Land in Solvang, where you can feed the ostriches and emus. Open daily from 10am to dark, admission is only $4 for adults and $1 for kids under 12.

Just around the bend from Quicksilver Ranch is the quaint village of Solvang, an early Danish Settlement, which has faithfully maintained the flavor of Denmark -- right down to thatched roofs and windmills. The Valley is also famous for its world class wines and the birthplace of Andersen's Split Pea Soup. This unspoiled valley of rolling hills and majestic oaks is one of the most beautiful places on Earth!

Artiste Winery and Tasting Studio is a unique blend of art and wine. With limited edition wines, each wine features a piece of impressionist artwork as both its label and its name.
2948 Grand Ave, Studio E Los Olivos, CA 93441 Open daily 11am-5:30pm (805) 686-2626

Trattoria Grappolo, a traditional southern style trattoria, set in a building that looks like the wild west. It's like being in the kitchen of a loud italian family. Make sure to try the Rollino Veneto and the Capellini alla Checca. Visit
